Plymouth Argyle vs Colchester United - preview
By: Jim | March 4th, 2008I’m feeling slightly guilty at not having written proper blog posts for a while, and instead getting seduced by podcasting. Part of the attraction of podcasting is the lack of any thought-out script; the opportunity to waffle on randomly about whatever pops into my head at the time. For a short while I had a career as a comedy improviser, and I’ve always enjoyed operating, as it where, without a safety net. Blog posts - at least my blog posts - tend to be rather more crafted, and thus mannered; and longer to produce.
Anyway, football. Argyle’s season is now at its tipping point. They need to respond positively to the (widely predicted) defeat at West Brom by taking Col U out for a right kicking. They need a win; they need a performance; they need goals. Anxious glances are being cast by some of the fans at the number of goals scored by our strikers; if Jermaine Easter isn’t to get a complex of Chadwick-sized proprtions, he needs to start scoring. PS’s comments about the need for better service to the wingers to allow them to create chances for the strikers made interesting reading: if Nalis has an off day, our distribution goes to hell in a hand cart.
Whether he’ll be tempted to tinker or not, I’m not sure. Does Clark play in the middle? If not (and I’m aware I’m risking what little credibility I may have built up on this blog by suggesting this), perhaps Luke Summerfield needs another try in central midfield. Yes, he’s struggled recently. Yes, he had a shocker in the Hull game (so did everyone). But on his day, he’s our most creative central midfielder, and if we’re looking to unlock a desperate Col U side determined to scrap for every point, we’re going to need someone who can pass the ball properly. The Anderson/Timar partnership is presumably set to continue, at least until The Beast gets another booking, which would bring him an automatic two-game ban and a trip to Soho Square for a naughty-boy wigging.
All very interesting. Colchester will be without Duguid, White and Baldwin. Up front, one imagines it will be Lisbie and Platt, with Teddy Sheringham on the bench. The last time I saw Sheringham in the flesh he scored a couple for West Ham in our 5-0 tonking up there, so, and with respect, I hope he stays on the bench. Should be an intriguing game.
