Luke McCormick
By: Jim | June 8th, 2008You probably know by now that Argyle goalkeeper Luke McCormick has been charged on four counts relating to the tragic deaths yesterday morning of two boys aged 10 and 8 in a road accident near Keele Services on the M6.
There are no words capable of comprehending, let alone consoling, the terrible grief that the boys’ parents are feeling. As a parent myself, all I can say is, my heart goes out to them. Without the full knowledge of the facts of the case, which will take several months to come to light, it would be singularly inappropriate for this blog to comment further, so it shan’t. Luke will appear before magistrates tomorrow.

I am totally disgusted that a privileged footballer recklessly drinks and drives and kills two innocent kids. I hope you fire this guy.

The club (who are the ones who do the hiring and firing, not me – I’m just a fan) have indicated that they will not be taking any decision with regard to Luke’s future at Argyle until the full legal process has reached its conclusion. The police are still appealling for witnesses – even they don’t know what really happened. Until the facts of the case are presented in court, judgment reached and, if necessary, sentence pronounced, it doesn’t seem right to me to offer a view one way or another on Luke’s guilt or innocence.

I am in total agreement, the newspapers have helped by stirring the whole of the UK up with this story. It is always high profile and very upsetting when kids are involved especially in these tragic circumstances.
However I think there may be a few suprises when this incident is investigated fully and for the others who do not seem to comprehend what excess alcohol charges are they can be the morning after you have slept or but not necessarily drunk at the wheel! Charges have to go to Crown Court to be proven and people are already assessing this players character which I find highly amusing as 99% of them have not ever met him. I think it is wrong that the papers allow this to happen and support Blogs that the public can write down what ever they feel fit with very little if not any facts to support their naming and branding of this player. I too am a fan and all I can say is do not believe everything you read. Like Jim has stated the police are not even sure yet and you can see this for yourself on their website.Posted from

At his hearing this morning, Luke was bailed to a further hearing on 8 September. No pleas were entered, and one of the four charges against him was dropped.
Good to see the internet has reached even the most entrenched quarters of human idiocy.

There is no doubt that Luke didnt set that day with any intent to hurt anybody at all, hw just wanted to get back to his girlfriend and was obviously torn apart by the false allegations maliciously put on the interent by others. It is all to easy to wake the next morning after a party and still be both tired and unwittingly over the driving limit. He himself has to live knowing that he contributed to causing a terrible accident which claimed the lives of two young boys. To hold him out as thoroughly bad person is totally wrong. My condolences go out to the greiving family, but also to Luke and his family as the accident has also torn them apart. A young man tormented by deliberate vicious rumours about his girlfriend, havent we all been in that position at one time or another? We should have some sympathy for Luke as well as the family and find and punish the people that toremented Luke to such emotional levels in the first place.
